Part 2. THE COMMANDMENTS REGARDING IDOLATRY IN YAHSHUA’S LAW-BOOK
Exodus 20:3-6, Deuteronomy 6:4-7, II Corinthians 6:14-18, & I Corinthians 5:9-13
Exodus 20:3: Thou shalt have no other gods before
me.
4: Thou shalt not
make [#6213] unto thee any
graven image [#6459], or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the
LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of them that
hate [#8130] me;
6: And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my
commandments [#4687; from
#6680].
Deuteronomy 6:4: Hear, O Israel: The
LORD [#3068, YHVH] our
God [#430] is
one [#259] LORD:
5: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6: And these words, which I
command [#6680] thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk
of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and
when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
In “The Laws of God”, Pastor Comparet gives a concise, clarifying explanation of laws of the kingdom of YHVH. In this fine sermon, he said the following -- “The Bible speaks of four kinds of divine law: the commandments, the judgments, the statutes, and the ordinances. … The commandments [throughout the Bible, which include the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20] are the major rules of conduct for the responsibility of man to his God. … And contrary to what a good many of the churches teach, they are still in full effect. … ”
YHVH gave to Moses 10 important commandments, referred to in Exodus 31:18 as the “two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” The first and second commandments of these 10 are regarding idolatry. Being the first 2 divine laws, they are of primary importance. Idolatry is the worship of something or someone (the creation) other than the Holy One of Israel, which consists of the united YHVH, YAHshua, and the Holy Spirit. (See Deuteronomy 6:4 and I John 1:7.)
When committing idolatry, one makes the object of idolatry more important than YHVH and His edicts in the Bible (YAHshua’s Word). Doing so, therefore, is giving in to the temptation of forbidden lusts (longings prohibited by YAHshua’s law book). The object of idolatry can be a god/goddess, sun, moon, planet, star, earth (all being forms of paganism); a spiritual being or beings [i.e. “angels” or certain demons] (i.e. witchcraft, voodooism, Luciferianism, Satanism); a person [real or imaginary such as Santa Claus]; or a goal/idea/thing/belief/activity, such as secular humanism. The prevalent belief in secular humanism in America and Europe is not commonly thought of as idolatry, but indeed it is. Humanism is the belief that the human being is the Supreme Being, and that humans are capable of self-fulfillment, ethical conduct, etc., without recourse to YHVH. This idolatrous doctrine permeates the public school curriculum in America! And secular humanism, by the way, is recognized as a religion under American law!

When Jesus came to earth for His earthly ministry, He fulfilled (#4137, “to make replete, i.e. [literally] to cram [a net], level up [a hollow], or [figuratively] to furnish [or imbue, diffuse, influence], satisfy, execute [an office], finish [a period or task], verify [or coincide with a prediction], etc.”) the law. He taught all of His people about the first (“foremost [in time, place, order or importance]”) and second (“… in time, place, or rank”) commandments (“injunction, i.e. an authoritative prescription”; [dictionary: legally meaning “a judicial process or order requiring the person or persons to whom it is directed to do or (more commonly) not to do a particular thing”]). Only one love (“… in a social or moral sense”) can be the most important in people’s lives; that greatest love is to be for the Holy One of Israel. Jesus also taught that we are to love others (our “neighbor”) as ourselves and to love them in a moral (biblical) way (#25, “agapao”). –
Matthew 5:17: [Jesus said,]
Think [#3543]
not [#3361] that I am come to
destroy [#2647] the
law [#3551], or the
prophets [#4396]: I am
not [#3756] come to destroy, but to
fulfill [#4137].
18: For
verily [#281] I say unto you, Till
heaven [#3772] and
earth [#1093]
pass [#3928], one
jot [#2503] or one
tittle [#2762] shall in
no wise [#3364] pass from the law, till all be
fulfilled [#1096].
19: Whosoever therefore shall
break [#3089] one of these
least [#1646]
commandments [#1785], and shall
teach [#1321]
men [#444] so, he shall be called the least in the
kingdom [#932] of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same
shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mark 12:28: And one of the
scribes [#1122] came, and having heard them reasoning together, and
perceiving that He [Jesus] had answered them
well [#2573], asked Him, Which is the
first [#4413]
commandment [#1785] of all?
29: And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O
Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30: And thou shalt
love [#25] the Lord thy God with
all [#3650] thy
heart [#2588], and with all thy
soul [#5590], and with all thy
mind [#1271], and with all thy
strength [#2479]: this is the first commandment.
31: And the
second [#1208] is like, namely this, Thou shalt love [#25] thy
neighbour [#4139] as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than
these.
Leviticus 19:18: Thou shalt not avenge [35358, “to grudge, i.e. avenge or punish”], nor bear any grudge [#5201, “to guard; figuratively, to cherish (anger)”] against the children [#1121] of thy people [#5971], but thou shalt love thy neighbour [#7453] as thyself: I am the LORD [#3068].
Romans 13:8: Owe no man any thing, but to
love [#25] one another: for he that loveth another hath
fulfilled [#4137] the
law [#3551].
9: For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou
shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if
there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying,
namely, Thou shalt love [#25] thy
neighbour [#4139] as thyself.
10:
Love [#26, “love, i.e. affection or benevolence”] worketh no ill to his
neighbour: therefore love [#26] is the fulfilling of the
law.
11: And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of
sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12: The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off
the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13: Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness,
not in
chambering [#2845, “from
#2749; a couch; by extension, cohabitation; by implication, the male sperm”]
and
wantonness [#766, “licentiousness (sometimes including other vices)”], not
in
strife [#2054] and envying.
14: But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the
flesh, to fulfill the
lusts [#1939] thereof.
I John 5:1: Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the
Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also
that is begotten of him.
2: By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God,
and keep his commandments.
3: For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his
commandments are not grievous.
4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the
victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5: Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus
is the Son of God?
6: This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by
water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness,
because the Spirit is truth.
7: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word,
and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. …
