1. Rifle, Carbine, or Shotgun.

2. AMMO for the firearm above.
(Minimum of 200 rounds carried; 2000 rounds in your home or camp.)

3. Pistol or Revolver (optional)

4. AMMO for Pistol or Revolver (50 Rounds minimum carried, 500 rounds minimum in your home or camp).

5. A complete SET of MILITARY LOAD BEARING EQUIPMENT, aka COMBAT HARNESS;   (or the new MOLLE Combat Gear):
~Pistol Belt
~Combat Suspenders
~Ammo Pouches (2)
~Canteens w/Covers (2) [at least 1 canteen cup]
~Butt Pack
~Compass & First Aid Pouches [2] - [1 for Compass, and 1 for Battlefield Dressings]
~Holster for Handgun

6. A good quality Compass & Topographic Maps of your squad's area of operations. (Perhaps also a Handheld GPS Unit, but not instead of a Compass).

7. Battlefield Dressings (2) Military Bandages for bullet wounds.

8. A small First-Aid Kit.

9. Bayonet.

10. Combat Knife.

11. Perhaps a small knife for skinning deer, elk and bears.

12. Pocketknife for skinning squirrels, and many uses.

13. Small sharpening stone.

14. Leatherman Tool or SWISS ARMY KNIFE.

15. Mini-Mag Lite, red lens filter, & extra batteries and/or one of the new Tactical Lights.

16. Weapons Cleaning Kit
[Otis makes a good one.] CHEAPER THAN DIRT has good military surplus kits.

17. A spare Compass [less expensive compass].

18. State & Regional MAPS [a map case, even if only a big zip-lock bag].

19. Signal Mirror, which can also be used for shaving. [A Computer Disk will work.]

20. Personal Hygiene Kit

29. A RANGER HANDBOOK, or other good FIELD GUIDE.

30. Poncho Liner [a type of camo blanket that ties inside of the Poncho.]

31. Wool Army Blankets [1,2 or 3 to suit season]
or
Sleeping Bag to suit the season & weather.

32. Sleeping Pad

33. 2 Ponchos [1 under the butt pack, 1 in the rucksack "pack"].

34. Parachute Cord and or #36 Nylon Fishing Twine [100 feet +].

35. Camo BDU or ACU Field Coat with Liner in Cold times of the year.

36. Swiss Militia - Grey Great Coat Overcoat. [In Extreme Cold].

37. SKEETER NETTING in warm weather.

38. Sun Screen.

39. Sun Glasses and/or Extra Pair of Eyeglasses protected in a hard case.

40. Camouflage Face Paint.

41. Leather Gloves.

42. Wool Gloves [Cold]

45. SMALL SHORT-WAVE RADIO RECEIVER in a waterproof bag.

47. MESS KIT for cooking drinking & eating, include a Spoon and Fork.

48. Small Stove and Fuel
"Tommy Cooker" is OK. [folding stove with heat tabs] or Sterno.

49. A better Cook Stove IF you can afford it. PRIMUS or some other single-burner unleaded and or white-gas type back-packing camp stove.

50. LARGE or MEDIUM FRAME "ALICE PACK" to load it all into and tote it.
Any good Military style Back Pack is OK, make do with a Civilian pack if that is all ya got, at least until you can lay hands on a good military back pack.

51. Top it all off with a good "Steel Pot" MILITARY HELMET. [keeps your head dry in the rain if nothing else.]

52. Water Purification Tablets.

53. WATER FILTRATION AND PURIFICATION SYSTEM [SMALL BACKPACKING MODEL].

54. WOODEN STRIKE ANYWHERE KITCHEN MATCHES [In a good waterpoof zip-lock freezer bag.]

55. WHAT ELSE? THINK ABOUT IT??  TALK IT OVER WITH YOUR FIRE TEAM and SQUAD.

ALL GEAR THAT MIGHT BE DAMAGED BY WATER SHOULD BE PACKED IN ZIP-LOCK FREEZER BAGS OR SOME OTHER SUITABLE "WATER-TIGHT" BAG.

57. FOOD RATIONS: Military Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) or civilian equivalent, Backpackers Dehydrated Meals. (and/or) Other Foods Rations: Jerky, Parched Corn (corn nuts), Dried Fruit (raisins, dates, apples, apricots, etc.), Sardines, Small Cans of Beef Stew and Chili, Hardtack Army Crackers, Packets of Instant Oatmeal, Sugar in Zip-Lock Bag, Coffee Singles brew bags, Instant Hot Chocolate, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Etc. Backpacker & Military Meals are great, but if your on a tight budget or in a hurry look for light weight quick & easy to fix foods readily available at your grocery store.
