A concise Southern Statement of belief

Introductory Note: The New Albany Declaration was born in part, at least, because of the Great Southern League Race Debate. Many statements had been made by pro-Southern activists in that debate that were so very contrary to the beliefs Southerners have always held. This was a cause of great concern to many traditional Southerners holding traditional Southern beliefs.
Although members of all major Southern heritage groups were in attendance for the New Albany Conference, it is not actually a statement of what any of the groups will admit to believing. There is certainly pro-New Albany sentiment within every Southern heritage group. And I'm hopeful that as time goes by, that sentiment will grow by leaps and bounds.
The main points of agreement among the conferees were (1) the Southern people is composed of Northern European peoples who have moved here and formed families and communities. The Southern people are dominated by those of Anglo-Saxon and Celtic ethnic lineage. (2) The Southern people are a Christian people. (3) The Southern way of life is an agrarian way of life, which was explained to me as meaning that we hold a love for the land of the South. And when we are in Dixie, we know we are home. I certainly hold strongly to all three points. --- Dennis Wheeler
