The following essay provides a brief explanation for some of the most common misconceptions and fabrications about Adolf Hitler that have become pervading myths and lies about the famous Nazi leader. Unfortunately in today's modern politically correct “Judeo-Christian” and Secular Humanist culture, rarely do people examine closely the reasons or evidence of Hitler's actual beliefs, more often than not confusing the beliefs of other prominent Nazis for Hitler's views, and the beliefs of the mainstream of the Nazi Party.  A careful and scholarly study of the documented facts proves that both Adolf Hitler and the majority of the Nazis of the World War II era where Christians.  One may argue about the correctness of their doctrines and about the depth of their Faith in God, but there is really no denying the fact that these men and women of the Nazi movement were in fact true Christians, including their most prominent leader, the fuehrer Adolf Hitler.

The essay on the Christianity of Adolf Hitler provides ample evidence for his understanding of Christianity. The evidence itself destroys any opinions, spin or politically correct beliefs about Hitler's alleged apostasy or paganism.

Facts, not Fiction -

Throughout the Keltic Klan Kirk web pages on Adolf Hitler's Christianity, I have relied for the most part on documented first-hand quotes from the famous Nazi commander himself: Hitler's book 'Mein Kampf,' his public speeches recorded by camera and radio, official Nazi proclamations, and actual letters personally written and signed by Adolf Hitler. I did not rely on hearsay evidence and accounts because those many people who greatly admired or strongly hated Adolf Hitler had their own reasons to embellish, fabricate and graft their own beliefs onto Hitler. To understand who Hitler really was and what he really believed and thought we must understand the facts about him and evaluate those facts. This requires cutting away the chaff and skimming off the dross. Usually the best way to evaluate a person involves examining closely the words and actions of the person directly rather than allowing oneself to be led off track indirectly by putting too much emphasis on the opinions and prognostications from editors and hearsay accounts.

On the other hand, whenever documenting the history of Adolf Hitler and his beliefs, it would not be deemed fair nor would it be very convincing to exclude mention of  the alleged sayings of Hitler, from well known apocryphal sources such as the "Secret Conversations with Hitler," "Hitler - Memoirs of a Confidant," Albert Speer's memoirs or "Hitler's Table Talk" (also referred to as "Private Conversations"). It is mostly from "Hitler's Table Talk" that pagan Nazis and other opponents against the truth about Hitler's Christianity usually turn for ammo in their arguments and essays. For the simple fact is that 'Hitler's Table Talk' is the only source where one can find Hitler denouncing the Christian religion to such a degree.

Red quotes = Hitler quotes.

Green quotes = General quotes.

Hitler's Table Talk -

Those who deny that Adolf Hitler was a Christian will invariably find the recorded table talk conversations of Hitler from 1941 to 1944 as “so-called” incontrovertible evidence that he could not have been a Christian. The source of this misinformation usually comes from the English translation edition by Norman Cameron and R. H. Stevens, with an introduction by H.R. Trevor-Roper.

The table talk puts words in Adolf Hitler’s mouth far different from anything officially documented or spoken in public and has him saying outlandish and uncharacteristic things such as: "Christianity is an invention of sick brains...," and the infamous favorite of Judeo-Christians as well as pagan and secular neo-Nazis, "The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death. There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that Hitler ever said anything even remotely resembling this fabrication in table talk.

But those that argue against the sincerity of Hitler's Christianity fail to see that Christianity comes in many forms and establishes many camps or denominations. Two distinctions we must examine are the following: First we have the belief system held by individual Christians or an unorganized group of Christians, and secondly we have the formal organized Christian religion and its many branches. It was the latter, this organized formal Christianity and certain of its organizations that Hitler spoke against, and this does not brand Hitler as a non-Christian or anti-Christian; many true Christian speak out strongly against formal organized Christianity as it exists today. Not once does Hitler denounce his own understanding of Christianity nor does he ever state that he is merely a pretender to the Faith, nor does he ever speak or write against Jesus Christ. On the contrary, even the Table-Talk has Hitler speaking respectfully and admirably about Jesus Christ. Now to the heart of the matter which must not be overlooked by any serious student of the Nazis and of Adolf Hitler, the problems with using Hitler's table talk conversations as evidence for Hitler's apostasy are numerous and important:

1. The reliability of the source is NOT trustworthy.  Table Talk is nothing more than unreliable hearsay with editing done by the vehemently anti-Roman Catholic, Martin Bormann.

2. The Table-Talk writings reflect so-called thoughts of Hitler that do not occur in Adolf Hitler's other private or public conversations, writings, speeches, or proclamations.

3. Nowhere, not even in Table-Talk does Adolf Hitler denounce Jesus Christ, and nowhere, not even in Table-Talk does Hitler denounce or renounce his own Christian Faith and belief in Christianity.

4. The infamous anti-Christian so-called quotes from Table-Talk are contrary to point number 24 of the Nazi Party Programme written by Adolf Hitler does not concur with Hitler's actions, stance and strong support for ‘positive’ Christianity.

The reliability of the source -

Not one of Hitler's table talk conversations were recorded or captured by audio tape, film, or broadcast over radio airwaves. According to H.R. Trevor-Roper, Adolf Hitler absolutely refused to admit any mechanical recorder into his room. Hitler it is said reluctantly allowed Martin Bormann to pick stenographers, Heim, and Piker, to record the conversations. We are told it was Bormann's idea to record Hitler's thoughts in the first place. In a facsimile written after the last of Hitler's recorded table talk, Martin Bormann wrote a directive that stated the following:

"Please keep these notes most carefully, as they will be of very great value in the future. I have now got Heim to make comprehensive notes as a basis for these minutes. Any transcript which is not quite apposite will be re-checked by me." --- Martin Bormann  [Trevor-Roper, inset.]

Now mark well the fact that the word "Apposite" means: fitting, suitable, and/or appropriate. Also note that the Bormann stated clearly his intention to recheck the transcript, exactly what Martin Bormann means by "re-checked" can only be speculated upon, but none the less arouses serious suspicions. However that may be, it bears great importance here that the fact remains that neither Heim nor Bormann could hardly be in a position to determine what deems apposite, (fitting, suitable, and/or appropriate) for Hitler to have said in Table-Talk. Keeping all of this firmly in mind and considering Bormann's intensely biased views against Roman Catholicism, and one cannot help but wonder at the authenticity of the so-called quotes in question. Only a very naďve simpleton or a person with either an anti-Nazi or an anti-Christian agenda would accept all of Table-Talk as genuine and beyond dispute. Should we be stupid enough to take it as simply nothing but coincidence that the church denouncements by Adolf Hitler recorded in the Table-Talk parallel exactly the anti-church sentiments of Martin Bormann, but yet Hitler expresses these thoughts nowhere else?

The notorious anti-Christian Martin Bormann served as the chief instigator, hottest fuel, and often quoted reason for the false perception of many Christians and neo-Nazi pagans that Nazism was against Christianity. Many times we find that quotes attributed to Adolf Hitler are actually Martin Bormann's. It is a well known fact that Bormann passionately and secretly worked against the Catholic religion behind Hitler's back and that he did this without Hitler’s permission. What must be understood and pointed out in crystal clarity is the fact that "the fight against the church organizations" was Bormann's pet project, along with his inner circle of confidants. It is a documented fact of history that in spite of Martin Bormann repeatedly attempting to persuade Hitler to take action against the churches, he never did any such a thing. Rather than taking action against the churches in some form of official Nazi Party announcement Hitler insisted to the contrary, that "There has been no official Party announcement, nor will there be one." [VonLang, p.191]

Now in light of all of this, added to the public professions of Christian Faith made repeatedly by Hitler, and the public support of the Christian churches by the Nazi Party, explain to me how can any honest seeker of truth in this matter can rely on or take seriously ‘Hitler's table talk’ when it is known that the entire transcript was edited and kept by the staunchly anti-Catholic Martin Bormann?  Two professional scribes appointed by Martin Bormann supposedly recorded Adolf Hitler's conversations, in other words these two scribes were carefully chosen by Bormann for the task at hand, which I sincerely believe was to put words in Hitler’s mouth. One transcript was recorded from the 5th of July, 1941 to the 20th of March, 1942 by Heinrich Heim a civil servant in the Reich Ministry of Justice. Later a transcript was recorded by Dr. Henry Picker, from the 21st of March, 1942 until the 31st if July, 1942. The transcribed records, whether taken by Heim or Picker, were all passed to Martin Bormann, whereupon Bormann made two copies of each transcript for his record. One of these copies was archived in the Fuhererbau in Munich, Germany but was burnt at the end of the war; the other copy of the transcripts was sent to the Berghof at Berchtesgaden and thereby came ultimately into the hands of M. Francois Genoud. It is this second copy handed down to us from Monsieur Francois Genoud of which the volume of Hitler's table talk was translated. [Hugh Trevor-Roper, p.viii]

Now to the heart of the matter, an important fact for those who are skeptical, which makes this whole assertion that Borman’s tampering with the transcripts is a documented fact and not merely an opinion or speculation.  It is documented that Dr. Henry Picker regarded his own recorded transcripts as genuine and authentic, furthermore he insisted that "no confidence can be placed in Bormann's editing of it." Indeed, the good Doctor and scribe writes an indictment, rather testily, of "Bormann's alterations, not authorised by me." [Hugh Trevor-Roper, p.viii]. Unfortunately for those of us who would love to read what was actually transcribed, we do not have the unaltered unadulterated versions of Dr. Henry Picker's or Heinrich Heim's recordings.

In other words, and mark this well, there are no originals of the transcripts surviving and the copies that survived were heavily filtered and edited by Martin Bormann, a man with an agenda to press forward. The simple fact is that the ‘table talk’ cannot seriously be considered to be a first-hand recording of Adolf Hitler's words. On this fact alone, no true scholar or historian can ever with integrity or certainty use the ‘table talk’ as a source for Adolf Hitler's voice and thoughts, especially in regards to the Christian religion since powerful evidence exists that the ‘table talk’ could in fact very well instead reflect the personal views and bias of the anti-Catholic Bormann.

Adolf Hitler Quotes

"The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavour to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines (Lehren ), and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of to-day."

-Adolf Hitler, on 26 June 1934, to Catholic bishops to assure them that he would take action against the new pagan propaganda.

"No, it is not we that have deserted Christianity, it is those who came before us who deserted Christianity. We have only carried through a clear division between politics which have to do with terrestrial things, and religion, which must concern itself with the celestial sphere. There has been no interference with the doctrine (Lehre ) of the Confessions or with their religious freedom (Bekenntnisfreiheit ), nor will there be any such interference. On the contrary the State protects religion, though always on the one condition that religion will not be used as a cover for political ends....

National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary it stands on the ground of a real Christianity.... For their interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of to-day, in our fight against a Bolshevist culture, against atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for a consciousness of a community in our national life... These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles! And I believe that if we should fail to follow these principles then we should to be able to point to our successes, for the result of our political battle is surely not unblest by God."

--- Adolf Hitler, in his speech at Koblenz, to the Germans of the Saar, 26 August 1934

A quote from table talk that I believe to be accurate:

"Nothing would be more foolish than to re-establish the worship of Wotan. Our old mythology had ceased to be viable when Christianity implanted itself ......."
