A Tarp Roof

A Single Tarp will keep the weather out and is easy to pack into remote and Rugged Backwoods Strongholds.  Stockpile Tarps for the size of Cabins and Shacks you and your Family or Cell Group intend to build.

A Single Tarp Roof ...

... A Double Tarp Roof

Two Tarps with Air Space left Between them, stacked like a Corporals Chevrons Works Real Good. this is much better than just a single tarp.  Works best with the air space.

Replace Eventually with Tin Roofing

or

Wooden Shake Shingles

If Time and Money & the Course of the War Permits.

Remember that Tin Roofing cannot be easily packed or trucked into the most rugged and remote areas, also it is expensive compared to tarps.  Wooden Shake Shingles are really nice, but require lots of time, effort, work, and skill to make enough for a roof.  The Rebel Bushwhacker will not always have the time, the money, or the assurance of staying one place long enough to justify a tin or shake shingle roof.  The Tarp is the roof of choice for most Paramilitary Cabins, and will also be seen on the Family Cabins of a lot of Homesteading Neo-Pioneers.  Fur Trappers actually have used this method in the Far North Woods.

Tin Roofing and Tarp Combo

At this stage of construction on this particular Confederate Partisan Ranger Shack the back part of the Cabin has Tin Roofing and the front part has 3 Tarps stacked like a Sergeants Chevrons.

The Two innermost or bottom Tarps extend past the outer cabin walls about the same distance as the Tin Roofing.  The Third and Topmost Tarp extends over 6 feet past the outer wall on this side of the Cabin and makes a good storage area for gear.  The grommets on all of the Tarps are tied good and tight to nearby trees or large spike nails driven into the ground like tent stakes.  The Tarp is tied with #18 and #36 Trot-Line Twine (Nylon Twine), and Parachute Cord.

Note that this Cabin has Tin "Roof" Siding around the bottom of the outer walls against the ground.  Helps keep out snakes, and is somewhat harder to catch on fire if leaves burn too close to the cabin .
