Maps of your squad's area of operations. (Perhaps also a
Handheld GPS Unit, but not instead of a Compass).
7. Battlefield Dressings (2) Military Bandages for bullet
wounds.

10. Combat Knife.
11. Perhaps a small knife for skinning deer, elk and
bears.
12. Pocketknife for skinning squirrels, and many uses.
13. Small sharpening stone.
14. Leatherman Tool or SWISS ARMY KNIFE.

and/or one of the new Tactical Lights.

17. A spare Compass [less expensive compass].

State & Regional MAPS [a map case, even if only a big zip-lock bag].

Computer Disk will work.]

49. A better Cook Stove IF you can afford it. PRIMUS or
some other single-burner unleaded and or white-gas type back-packing camp stove.
50. LARGE or MEDIUM FRAME "ALICE PACK" to load it all
into and tote it.
Any good Military style Back Pack is OK, make do with a
Civilian pack if that is all ya got, at least until you can lay hands on a good
military back pack.
51. Top it all off with a good "Steel Pot" MILITARY
HELMET. [keeps your head dry in the rain if nothing else.]

53. WATER FILTRATION AND PURIFICATION SYSTEM [SMALL
BACKPACING MODEL].
54. WOODEN STRIKE ANYWHERE KITCHEN MATCHES [In a good
waterpoof zip-lock freezer bag.]

over with your Fire Team & Squad.
ALL GEAR THAT MIGHT BE DAMAGED BY WATER SHOULD BE PACKED
IN ZIP-LOCK FREEZER BAGS OR SOME OTHER SUITABLE "WATER-TIGHT" BAG.

57. FIELD FOOD RATIONS: Military Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) or civilian equivalent, Backpackers Dehydrated Meals. (and/or) Other Foods Rations: Beef Jerky, Venison Jerky, Parched Corn (corn nuts), Trial Mix, Dried Fruit (raisins, dates, apples, apricots, peaches, etc.), Sardines, Small Cans of Beef Stew and Chili, Hardtack Army Crackers, Packets of Instant Oatmeal, Sugar in Zip-Lock Bag, Coffee Singles brew bags and/or Instant Coffee, Instant Hot Chocolate, Instant Mashed Taters, Dehydrated Scalloped Taters, Minute Rice, Ramen Noodles, Macaroni & Cheese in a box, Powdered Milk, Powdered Butter (Butter Buds), Salt, Pepper, & small bottle of Cooking Oil, Etc.
Dehydrated Backpacker Meals & Military Meals Ready to Eat are great, but if your on a tight budget or in a hurry look for light weight quick & easy foods readily available at your grocery store. If you are going to be in the field for an extended period of time take a light weight camp skillet and some flour, corn meal, sugar, salt, & Cooking Oil. Learn how to make Corn Bread in a skillet and Bannock wrapped on a stick over an open camp fire. Dried Rice, Pinto Beans, Navy Beans & Black-eyed Peas pack & keep well, but take a real long time to cook & are only practical when you will be in one spot a long time & can safely build a fire. Know how to hunt deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and squirrels; and learn how to roast fresh killed meat over hickory coals. Learn how to cook over a camp fire. Before that be sure to learn how and become skilled at building a camp fire.

61. A Wooden Spoon. Yes! Common & cheap. Cut the handle off shorter & sand tip smooth. Use at times in the field instead of silverware for "noise security". These wooden spoons are much quieter than a metal fork or spoon banging against your canteen cup. Better than plastic too!
